Level of advancement : Stage 1 Elementary (600 headwords) A1 Contents:Botchan comes from Tokyo. He becomes a teacher and takes a job in a small village on one of the Japanese islands. It seems to him that learning in high school is an easy matter, but life in the provinces turns out to be completely different from existence in a big city. His new students turn out to be difficult youth; they are still deceiving Botchana, making his work increasingly difficult and problems more and more serious. A man can not find his place in a new reality and does not know whom he can trust and who is really his friend.Structure : The presented story is divided into chapters and preceded by the presentation of the heroes and the section Before You Read Activities containing exercises introducing the reader into the text of the book in terms of vocabulary and grammar. Glossaries with translations of selected words located at the bottom of each page help to better understand the text. After each chapter there is a two-page After-Reading Activities section summarizing the chapter in terms of the content of the presented history, as well as grammar, vocabulary and known language forms, as well as supporting the development of reading comprehension and effective memorization. In the final part of the book there is a four-page section Focus on presenting interesting information related to the author, historical background and the specificity of Japanese culture. The book is closed with the one-page Test yourself section, which checks the general level of understanding and remembering the history read, as well as the language forms learned, as well as the Syllabus section containing a brief description of the didactic intentions implemented in the book. The rich graphic design (including illustrations made by renowned illustrators of world-renown books) is an excellent visual commentary to the presented story and promotes a better understanding of the vocabulary and expressions found in the text.The book is an excellent tool consolidating the language competences and skills of young people and adults, including reading, listening, writing and speaking.
